Dealing with Assurance of Salvation

Some children will respond time after time to a salvation invitation. Or during counseling for salvation they will tell you that they pray to receive Christ as Savior everyday. Usually this is because they lack assurance of salvation. In these situations, there are two verses that need to be dealt with.

One is Hebrews 13:5, “For He himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” The child needs to be reassured that God has promised to stay with him forever.

The second is I John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” God has promised to forgive all confessed sin.

The believing child sometimes has the fear that if he sins that God will leave. Hebrews 13:5 can calm the fear that God will leave and I John 1:9 will tell the child the believers response to sin.
